The opening of
Hampden County's first career center in 1996 responded to a national effort aimed at centralizing previously fragmented
MA state employment services within regional, "one-stop" centers. CareerPoint’s goal is to provide centralized help toward area workforce
development -- enhancing the competitive
strength of companies through career development strategies outlined in the
federal Workforce Investment Act and improving
the future outlook for job seekers through job search and referral, job skills
training, transitional assistance and similar job-centered services for
individuals.
Populations served
Over 12,000 area job seekers and more than 900 Hampden County employers are served each year. CareerPoint is a private, non-profit organization.

Careerpoint
Thousands of Hampden County job seekers utilize CareerPoint's employment data banks, internet access and other career development services each year.
Hampden County’s "one-stop" approach to workforce development
CareerPoint’s "one-stop" approach to employer job services centralizes the corporate recruitment process under one roof. The concept is being pioneered in Massachusetts through a public/private partnership which includes federal, state and local government and community-based non-profit agencies seeking a common goal.
Available services are divided among free-of-charge (core) and fee-based services. At either level, a single call from an area employer looking for qualified candidates registers the hiring organization with the center. A CareerPoint employer account guides the process along with attention to the unique needs of each business client.
Available core services for
employers:
Resources to hire and retain
employees
Screening of job applicants
Labor market information
Informational seminars
Labor law and current issues
updates
Specialized testing/screening of
applicants
Targeted employee searches
Personnel department services
Skills upgrading and personal
computer training
Offices for interviewing
candidates
Organizational development
Job seeker services
The "one-stop" career center concept has as much relevance for individual job seekers as it does for corporate human resource specialists. CareerPoint provides a state-of-the-art facility for both.
CareerPoint counselors, trainers and other professional staff understand the job search process and assist individuals with all aspects of their quest for new or first-time employment.
Once registered, job seekers remain in the CareerPoint system for future assistance as needed.
Available core services for
individual job seekers:
Matching job seekers with job openings
Resume and application development
Interviewing and networking techniques
Education and training options
Self-assessment tools
Helping identify and market skills
Workshops and short courses
Access to personal computers, the Internet
and new job search technologies.
